As she gears up for her first-ever residency show, Lady Gaga appears poised to become one of Sin City’s biggest acts. Lady Gaga’s Las Vegas residency show, Enigma, is currently one of the hottest-selling shows on the Strip – even out-selling top headliner Celine Dion.
Extensive sales data collected from our system found that the entirety of Lady Gaga’s Las Vegas residency has already grossed higher in the secondary market than all upcoming shows from fellow pop superstars and Vegas headliners Celine Dion and Britney Spears. Early sales for Enigma have topped overall sales for the remaining shows in Dion’s long-running residency at Caesars Palace, which will fold in June after eight years. It also overpowered Britney Spears’ planned return to Vegas. Gaga pulled in more sales for a single performance than all of the originally scheduled shows of Spears’ Domination residency, which has since been scrapped due to Spears’ abrupt hiatus.
Gaga took over the Park Theater at Park MGM with Enigma in late December 2018. However, in true Lady Gaga fashion, fans will be treated to two different productions, as Mother Monster revealed she will also give special Jazz & Piano performances that showcase a different sound and atmosphere than Enigma. A total of 28 performance dates have been announced so far within the first year of her two-year contract with the resort.
A major factor contributing to Gaga’s strong sales performance are rather high ticket prices. Average tickets for the first leg of shows, which ran December 28-31, are a staggering $552 apiece. After the initial debut, ticket prices dip slightly, but remain at an average of $403 for the rest of Gaga’s performances in 2019. Spears’ residency originally sold tickets for over $200 less than Enigma at an average of $190, while Dion and Gwen Stefani’s residencies – both ending next year – pulled similar averages of $265 and $237 per ticket, respectively.
Mariah Carey’s The Butterfly Returns residency at Caesars Palace came in the lowest of the top female headliners at roughly $160 per ticket – perhaps attributed to the fact that she is also launching a world tour next year, resulting in a lower demand to catch a Vegas performance.
Much of the early hype around Lady Gaga’s Las Vegas residency stems from her starring role opposite Bradley Cooper in his remake of A Star Is Born, for which she is garnering Oscar buzz and earned yet another No. 1 album for her work on the soundtrack. Enigma sales skyrocketed following the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August and continued to pick up steam after its October theatrical release. In fact, 77 percent of all Ticket Club sales for the residency came after A Star Is Born‘s premiere.
Fans have long waited for the day that Mother Monster would become a Vegas headliner given her head-turning theatrics that make her live performances unforgettable. When the official announcement was made last year, it seemed to be the perfect marriage between performer and atmosphere.
