Iconic rock group Foreigner are bringing their catalog of hits to Las Vegas. The band is pegged to perform a series of ten dates at the Venetian Resort in 2020 for their first-ever residency.
Foreigner will take over the Venetian Theatre beginning January 24. Their limited engagement will be split into two, five-date runs: the first stretching through February 1 and the second scheduled for April 17-25.
There is no word yet if the residency will expand if successful, though it is certainly not out of the cards given the venue’s entertainment lineup. The Venetian Theatre has placed a heavy emphasis on welcoming legacy acts to the stage. Earlier this year, ZZ Top and Earth, Wind and Fire played limited engagements. Still to come this fall are shows from veteran artists Jackson Browne, Tony Bennett, Michael McDonald and Willie Nelson. Foreigner’s new gig also follows a larger pattern taking place across Las Vegas.
Just as quickly as the Strip has been consumed by pop residencies featuring the likes of Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson and Bruno Mars, rock groups are also infiltrating Sin City. Foreigner’s Vegas announcement comes just days after Journey extended their Caesars Palace engagement. Def Leppard and Aerosmith have also launched their respective residencies earlier this year, while Sting (sadly, sans The Police) is set to bring his catalog to Caesars in 2020.
Even after 40 years in the business, Foreigner are not slowing down any time soon. Their schedule is booked throughout the coming months as they trek to cities around the U.S., including select joint dates with pals Night Ranger. They are, however, a decade removed from their last album and therefore rely on their top radio hits of the 70s and 80s in each performance – though that’s something Vegas crowds will take no issue with.
