NFL Conference Championship weekend is upon us to finally decide the contenders for Super Bowl LIV. Showdowns in San Francisco and Kansas City will determine the new NFC and AFC champs while setting up an intriguing story ahead of Super Bowl Sunday. But if its powerful takeover of the ticketing market is any indication, this weekend’s NFL Conference Championship bouts tell an impressive story all their own.
Top-seeded NFC squad San Francisco will face off against Green Bay at home to punch a ticket to Miami. The 49ers are enjoying one of their most successful seasons in recent years and came into playoffs with a 13-3 record. They find themselves in their first NFC Championship in six years, which previously set them up against eventual Super Bowl champs Seattle.
Per Ticket Club data, San Francisco-Green Bay holds the highest ticket price of NFL Conference Championship weekend. NFC Championship tickets have been selling for an average of just over $600 – a six-year high. On the other hand, the AFC bout between Kansas City and Tennessee has been averaging $423 a ticket. That figure is up slightly from last year’s AFC Championship. However, it mostly falls below the mark compared to recent years.
NFL Conference Championship Weekend – Average Ticket Price Trends
Regardless of the games’ outcomes, fans of all four remaining teams can expect to pay a bit more for tickets next season. Immediately following their last NFC Championship appearance, the average price of 49ers tickets jumped some $50. Kansas City saw a similar increase this season after their AFC playoff run last year. Meanwhile, Packers fans coughed up nearly $70 more on average in 2015 after they reached the NFC Championship months before. This trend largely applied this season to three of the four last-standing playoff teams. See how each franchise fared in the chart below.
NFC/AFC Championship Teams – Average Ticket Price Jump After Playoff Run
While the NFC boasts the higher price tag per ticket, the AFC soundly has the largest volume of tickets being snatched off the marketplace. Chiefs fans – plenty eager to see their team advance to the big game – aren’t missing the chance to see the AFC Championship. The No. 2 seed ended the regular season as the league’s best-selling team. Their playoff appearances have made them even hotter by ranking among the NFL’s best-selling games of the entire season.
