Major League Baseball has endured plenty of cinematic moments over the years, but one unlike any other will occur next year. The Yankees and White Sox will stage a landmark game in the same Iowa cornfields at the center of Field of Dreams.
The teams will descend upon the Dyersville farmland where the 1989 film was shot for a special clash on August 13, 2020. It will mark the first-ever MLB game to be held in the Hawkeye State.
“As a sport that is proud of its history linking generations, Major League Baseball is excited to bring a regular season game to the site of Field of Dreams,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating the movie’s enduring message of how baseball brings people together at this special cornfield in Iowa.”

A temporary, 8,000-seat ballpark will house the game, with construction set to begin next week. Its design is reportedly inspired by the White Sox’s former home of Comiskey Park. Fans will be led down a pathway surrounding by corn crops before the land opens up to reveal the stand-alone ballpark.
30 years after its release, Field of Dreams continues to inspire baseball fans everywhere. Whether it means reciting one of its many memorable quotes or trekking to the filming location, the movie has sealed its place both in baseball and cinematic history.
“Field of Dreams captures the uniqueness of Iowans’ can-do attitude, and there’s no better place to host our state’s very first Major League game than this legendary baseball field in Dyersville,” said Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. “I look forward to this historic event in 2020.”
The game, which is set for a Thursday night, will be considered the start of a three-game home series for the White Sox. Both teams will be off the following day and return to the Windy City to finish out the series from Guaranteed Rate Field.
Ticket information will become available at a later date, though the game is expected to be sold-out. After all, if you build it, people will come.
