Meek Mill has unveiled plans for his Motivation Tour, his first headlining outing since being released from prison earlier this year.
The tour will launch February 19 in Miami and extend five weeks before concluding March 24 in Atlanta. Major markets on the itinerary include Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, Houston. Mill will also headline a hometown show in his native Philadelphia, set for March 15.
The Motivation Tour comes in support of the rapper’s forthcoming album, CHAMPIONSHIPS, due out November 30. Two promotional tracks off the record, “Oodles O’Noodles Babies” and “Uptown Vibes,” were recently released ahead of the full album’s debut.
A new album and tour brings Meek Mill’s career comeback full circle after he was released from prison in April. The rapper was sentenced to two to four years last November for violating his probation, which he had received after being convicted on gun and drug charges at only 19 years old. His new sentencing sparked a public outcry regarding criminal justice reform, with Colin Kaepernick, Rick Ross and Julius Erving showing their support toward the rapper.
Attention surrounding the case has made Meek Mill one of the most influential criminal justice reform advocates today. In a recent op-ed published in the New York Times, he detailed his experience within the prison system and called for reform at the hands of lawmakers. To help his cause, Meek Mill also shared his plans to launch a foundation dedicated to what he calls “the moral crisis of our time,” in hopes of changing current criminal justice standards.
