Just days after dropping his anticipated debut album The Big Day, Chance the Rapper has revealed his subsequent headlining tour.
The Big Day Tour will bring the rapper to nearly three dozen cities in early 2020. It will kick off January 15 in San Diego and extend through February with a closing gig in Milwaukee. Along the way, Chance will visit Boston, Detroit, San Francisco, Charlotte and Houston. He also has a pair of consecutive Canadian shows planned in Toronto and Montreal, respectively. Special guests Lil Yachty and Taylor Bennett (also Chance’s brother) will serve as supporting acts in select cities.
The tour was originally set for the fall but was ultimately postponed following the birth of Chance’s second daughter, Marli Grace. He shared the news with fans just days before the tour’s original start date, citing his need to focus on family and be with his wife Kristen and young daughters.
“This year has been one of the greatest of my life,” he wrote on Instagram, reflecting on his growing family and album release. “But with it being so eventful it has also been very strenuous having to divide my time and energy between family and work. When Kensli was born, I went on tour two weeks later and missed some of the most important milestones in her life, but more importantly I was absent when her mother needed me the most. At this point as a husband and father of two I realize that I can’t make that mistake again.”
His hometown show at Chicago’s United Center went on September 28 as scheduled – and even featured a surprise appearance by Kanye West – but the remainder of the tour will take place in 2020. Original dates in Tampa, Newark, Omaha, St. Louis, Tulsa, Saint Paul and Ottawa are yet to be rescheduled, but more information is expected to come in the new year.
The Big Day Tour follows the Grammy winner’s deeply personal debut album of the same name. The Big Day is Chance the Rapper’s first studio effort since his widely acclaimed 2016 mixtape Coloring Book. All 22 tracks on are centered around Chance’s family and wife, particularly focused on his wedding day. While it’s a glimpse into Chance’s personal life, he gets help from John Legend, Gucci Mane, Shawn Mendes and other top artists featured on the LP.
In the three years since his Coloring Book breakthrough, Chance the Rapper has kept busy in the studio for collaborations with DJ Khaled (“I’m the One” and “No Brainer”) and most recently joined forces with Ed Sheeran on his No. 6 collaborations project (“Cross Me”).
