Jay Z has another accomplishment to add to his impressive resume. The 47-year-old will become the first rapper to be inducted into the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame, it was announced today.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The iconic rapper\/producer will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame in a dinner and ceremony held in June, around the same time wife Beyonce<\/a> is due to give birth to the couple’s first set of twins.<\/p>\n

The honor comes in his first year of eligibility of induction, as the Songwriters Hall of Fame requires inductees must have been credited with writing hit songs for over 20 years. Jay Z released his debut album Reasonable Doubt<\/em> in 1996, with writing credits on each of the album’s tracks.\u00a0Since then, he has released fifteen more albums, twelve of which went on to top the U.S. Billboard<\/em> Hot 200 chart.<\/p>\n

The hip-hop mogul will be inducted alongside fellow music greats. The honorees include Chicago band members<\/a> Robert Lamm, James Pankow, and Peter Cetera, legendary Motown<\/a> founder Berry Gordy, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds<\/a>, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Max Martin. Edmonds, Jam and Lewis are rooted in R&B, having hits written for artists like Toni Braxton, Usher, Janet Jackson, and Mariah Carey<\/a>, whereas writer\/producer Martin has dominated the pop charts, penning a total of 22 hits to reach no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His most beloved work includes the Backstreet Boys<\/a>‘ “I Want It That Way,” Britney Spears<\/a>‘ “…Baby One More Time,” Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” and most recently, Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling.”<\/p>\n

The talented 2017 class of inductees join over 400 distinguished songwriters in the Hall of Fame, including Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond<\/a>, Billy Joel<\/a>, Garth Brooks<\/a>, and Tom Petty<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
