Broadway\u2019s biggest night took center stage at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday as the 78th Annual Tony Awards honored the standout productions and performances of the 2024\u20132025 season. Hosted by Academy Award nominee and Broadway veteran Cynthia Erivo, the evening delivered landmark wins, memorable performances, and a celebration of theater\u2019s best.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The night\u2019s top honors went to \u201cMaybe Happy Ending”, which emerged as the most-awarded production of the evening with six Tony wins, including Best Musical. Darren Criss, who co-hosted \u201cThe Tony Awards: Act One\u201d pre-show with Ren\u00e9e Elise Goldsberry, took home the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his performance in the production.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Michael Arden was recognized with Best Direction of a Musical, while Will Aronson and Hue Park earned trophies for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical. Scenic designers Dane Laffrey and George Reeve also received a Tony for their work on the show.<\/span><\/p>\n

Branden Jacobs-Jenkins earned his second consecutive Tony Award when his new play \u201cPurpose\u201d was named Best Play. The Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright previously won in 2024 for \u201cAppropriate.\u201d The production also marked a historic moment for Kara Young, who claimed Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for her role in \u201cPurpose\u201d \u2014 her second consecutive win in the same category.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nicole Scherzinger secured one of the evening\u2019s most anticipated victories, winning Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for her star turn in \u201cSunset Boulevard.\u201d The revival also took home the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical, along with Best Lighting Design of a Musical for Jack Knowles.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the play categories, \u201cEureka Day\u201d by Jonathan Spector earned the award for Best Revival of a Play. Sarah Snook was honored with Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for her acclaimed one-woman performance in \u201cThe Picture of Dorian Gray.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Cole Escola captured Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for their work in the self-penned comedy \u201cOh, Mary!,\u201d while director Sam Pinkleton was awarded Best Direction of a Play for helming the production.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other notable winners included \u201cBuena Vista Social Club,\u201d which received four Tonys, among them Best Choreography for Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck. \u201cStranger Things: The First Shadow\u201d picked up three technical awards, including Best Sound Design of a Play and Best Lighting Design of a Play.<\/span><\/p>\n
