Following the August 3 shooting in an El Paso Walmart that left 22 dead and dozens more injured, Khalid announced a concert to benefit the victims and their families. <\/p>\n
He will headline “A Night for Suncity<\/a>” on September 1 at the Don Haskins Center, along with special guests to be announced later. Khalid also designed a T-shirt depicting him sitting atop the El Paso city sign with the message “Forever from the City of the 915.” Proceeds from all tickets and T-shirt sales will go directly towards the El Paso Shooting Victims’ Fund and the El Paso Community Foundation. The concert immediately follows the conclusion of Khalid’s Free Spirit Tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n Shortly after the attack, the R&B superstar, 21, shared his grief and revealed plans for the benefit concert as his personal way of helping out the city that has become his adopted home.<\/p>\n “Over the past few days, my mind and heart have been heavy,”\u00a0 he wrote on Twitter. “Hearing\/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family, and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking. Singing ‘915’ and ‘City of El Paso’ on tour every night feels indescribable.”<\/p>\n Khalid moved to El Paso with his family while he was in high school and has praised the city<\/a> as the influence behind his entire music career.<\/p>\n “I’ve been thinking of ways to help out and support the city,” he tweeted. “I’m planning for a benefit concert later this month, all of the proceeds will go to the families affected by the shooting.
