October 6 will be one of the most telling days of Conor McGregor’s career. The Irishman could not only reclaim his title as UFC Lightweight Champion but also hand Khabib Nurmagomedov his first loss when the two face off in the headlining match of UFC 229. But perhaps even more impressive? The fight is poised to be McGregor’s best selling one yet – a remarkable feat for someone unanimously touted as the most popular fighter in UFC.<\/p>\n

Throughout his elite UFC career, McGregor has been as consistent in pulling in revenue as he is within the octagon. The 30-year-old champion is behind five of the top ten best-selling UFC events of the last five years, with other heavy-hitters like Daniel Cormier and Ronda Rousey among the other hottest fights.<\/p>\n

According to Ticket Club data, UFC 229 is on track to be McGregor’s best-selling fights and may quickly top his current hottest-seller, 2016’s UFC 206 against Eddie Alvarez. This of course excludes McGregor’s mammoth 2017 boxing match<\/a> against Floyd Mayweather Jr., which was the fourth best-selling sporting event of the year behind the Super Bowl, World Series and International Friendly soccer match between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Average ticket prices for the giant match, which Mayweather won in ten rounds, were upwards of $3,000 apiece. UFC 229 is garnering an average ticket price of $968, also on par with the $1,032 average price for McGregor-Alvarez.<\/p>\n

Along with ticket prices to the bout, tensions between the competitors are also high heading into the event. McGregor made headlines earlier this year for unleashing a rage-fueled assault on a tour bus carrying Nurmagomedov that left two fellow athletes hospitalized. UFC president Dana White told press at the time that McGregor’s attack was spurred by Nurmagomedov confronting and slapping<\/a>\u00a0Artem Lobov, McGregor’s close friend and teammate. McGregor was charged<\/a> with three counts of assault and one count criminal mischief as a result. The two prolific fighters have traded barbs<\/a> ever since, promising a fight that will surely live up to its hype.<\/p>\n
