With the NCAA men’s basketball tournament set to resume today, one thing is clear – it helps to have a home team if you’re a local organizer. The Omaha regional is by far the top mover in the market, featuring the highest NCAA tournament ticket prices of the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 rounds of play this weekend, due in large part to the proximity of Midwest Region top seed Kansas, just over 200 miles away.<\/p>\n

According to Ticket Club sales stats, the games at CenturyLink Center are the hottest sellers out there, with an average sold price ranging from $616 for an all-sessions pass down to $246 for a Sunday-only ticket to the regional finals. That all-sessions number is a whopping $155 higher than the next highest price regional, in Boston. Los Angeles is third, three dollars back of Beantown, with Atlanta trailing at $425 average price per ticket sold.<\/p>\n

The organizers in Omaha lucked out in a number of ways – from having the entire state of Kansas on the other side of its southern border, to drawing big-name basketball heavyweights Duke and Syracuse (and to a lesser extent, Clemson) for the weekend. Prices are also potentially impacted by the fact that the CenturyLink Center has the smallest capacity of the weekend’s venues, at 18,320. Boston’s TD Garden, which hosts the East Regional semifinals and finals Friday and Sunday, holds 18,624. Philips Arena in Atlanta, where the South Regional semifinals and finals go down Thursday and Saturday, holds 19,050. Finally, the West Regional semifinals and finals Thursday and Saturday will be played at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, which holds 19,060.<\/p>\n

As of Wednesday, the get-in prices trended higher for Omaha and Boston, while LA and Atlanta were generally a bit lower. The best deal according to what was available on Ticket Club is a Saturday ticket for Atlanta, which could be had for $88 including delivery, for members. The highest get-in for a single session was for Friday’s region semifinals in Omaha, which started at $238 per seat.<\/p>\n

At the other end of the spectrum, the highest ask for any ticket – by far – on the weekend was a Sunday suite in Boston, which had a six-figure asking price of $113,234 – substantially higher than any other ticket out there, including the rest of the building at the TD Garden.<\/p>\n
