2016 was a big year in music, and the American Music Awards will celebrate it all in a star-studded show tonight.\u00a0This year’s nominees all made waves with plenty of chart-topping songs, best-selling albums, and sold out tours.\u00a0Let’s break down each category and the potential award winners of the 2016 American Music Awards.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Artist of the Year<\/h4>\n

Should win: Adele<\/p>\n

Will win: Justin Bieber<\/p>\n

Adele dove\u00a0into 2016 on a high from the massive success of her third album 25<\/em>, which charted at no. 1 in several countries and went on to be one of the best-selling albums of all time. However, as the nominee with the most social media followers, Justin Bieber’s fans will likely vote him victorious, just as past winners Taylor Swift and One Direction have achieved through their fan base.<\/p>\n

New Artist of the Year<\/h4>\n

Should & will win: The Chainsmokers<\/p>\n

DJ duo The Chainsmokers were inescapable on the radio all year, despite impressive debuts for fellow nominees Alessia Cara, DNCE, Shawn Mendes and Zayn. They are the clear winner of this category, which country artist Sam Hunt won last year.<\/p>\n

Collaboration of the Year<\/h4>\n

Should win:Drake, Wizkid & Kyla – “One Dance<\/a>”<\/p>\n

Will win:\u00a0Fifth Harmony & Ty Dolla $ign – “Work From Home<\/a>”<\/p>\n

“One Dance” was the undisputed song of summer 2016, with its catchy beat that fueled spontaneous dancing whenever it played. It landed Drake his first no. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and become the most-streamed song on Spotify with nearly 900 million listens. The ladies of Fifth Harmony are strong contenders to snag this award from Drake, given their large and dedicated fan base to vote them to victory.<\/p>\n

Tour of the Year<\/h4>\n

Should & will win: Beyonce<\/p>\n

Fellow nominees Madonna and Bruce Springsteen would be strong contenders for this award if Beyonce wasn’t in the same category. Her Formation world tour was announced the same day she dropped the single of the same name AND performed it during the Super Bowl halftime show<\/a>, giving her tour plenty of hype, which only grew when her acclaimed album Lemonade<\/em> was released.<\/p>\n

Video of the Year<\/h4>\n

Should & will win: “Sorry” – Justin Bieber<\/p>\n

Pitted against Desiigner’s “Panda<\/a>” and Rihanna’s “Work<\/a>,” “Sorry” is the clear winner of the category. The hit drew in nearly two billion views on YouTube, and is currently the site’s third most-viewed video. Next.<\/p>\n
