Ahead of tonight&#8217;s show, we&#8217;re breaking down each award category and predicting the potential winner.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>ARTIST OF THE YEAR<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Ed Sheeran<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7608 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ticketclub.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/giphy13.gif\" alt=\"giphy\" width=\"381\" height=\"215\" \/>No one had a better year in music than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/ed-sheeran-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ed Sheeran<\/a>, who scored a no. 1 album, multi-Platinum selling singles, dominated radio waves and sold out venues around the world. The success behind Sheeran&#8217;s latest album\u00a0<em><strong>\u00f7\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>will likely make him the man to beat at this year&#8217;s awards circuit, just as he is here. Drake, The Chainsmokers, Kendrick Lamar, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/bruno-mars-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bruno Mars<\/a> are also up for the top prize.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Niall Horan<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-16142 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/70.32.16.123\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/giphy-5.gif\" alt=\"giphy\" width=\"377\" height=\"212\" \/><br \/>\nIn his post-One Direction musical ventures, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/niall-horan-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Horan<\/a> has made waves across charts between feel-good singles &#8220;This Town&#8221; and &#8220;Slow Hands,&#8221; not to mention an <a href=\"http:\/\/ticketclub.live\/2017\/10\/20\/a-track-by-track-review-of-niall-horans-first-solo-album-flicker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">impressive solo debut album<\/a>. This, along with his devout and dedicated fan base, will surely earn him the New Artist of the Year award. Other nominees are James Arthur, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/julia-michaels-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Julia Michaels<\/a>, Post Malone, and Rae Sremmurd.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COLLABORATION OF THE YEAR<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: &#8220;Despacito&#8221; &#8211; Luis Fonsi &amp; Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Luis Fonsi - Despacito ft. It&#8217;s likely still stuck in the public&#8217;s heads, earning plenty of votes to victory. Other nominated songs are &#8220;Don&#8217;t Wanna Know&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/maroon-5-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maroon 5<\/a> feat. Kendrick Lamar), &#8220;Starboy&#8221; (The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk), &#8220;Closer&#8221; (The Chainsmokers feat. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/halsey-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Halsey<\/a>) and &#8220;I&#8217;m the One&#8221; (DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper &amp; Lil Wayne).<\/p>\n<p><strong>TOUR OF THE YEAR<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Coldplay<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7590 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ticketclub.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/giphy7.gif\" alt=\"giphy\" width=\"340\" height=\"208\" \/>Despite shattering records on their impressive world tours, nominees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/garth-brooks-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Garth Brooks<\/a> and U2 are likely to be snubbed by Coldplay, whose A Head Full of Dreams tour brought them to some of the world&#8217;s most famed venues and drew in over $400 million, making the two-year trek one of music&#8217;s highest-grossing tours ever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE MALE ARTIST \u2013 POP\/ROCK<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Ed Sheeran<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s true that Ed Sheeran had a phenomenal comeback year, which is in large part why we&#8217;re predicting a win for him here. But compared to fellow nominees Drake and Bruno Mars, the Brit stands alone as the only artist to truly emulate the pop\/rock genre the category is said to recognize.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE FEMALE ARTIST \u2013 POP\/ROCK<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Lady Gaga<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7614 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ticketclub.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/giphy15.gif\" alt=\"giphy\" width=\"338\" height=\"187\" \/>Rihanna and Alessia Cara are also deserving of Favorite Female Artist, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/lady-gaga-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lady Gaga<\/a> has continued to evolve as an artist, revealing her most personal and vulnerable side to date with 2016&#8217;s <em>Joanne<\/em>. That acclaim, along with recent praise for her Netflix documentary <em>Gaga: Five Foot Two<\/em>, make her a shoo-in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE DUO OR GROUP \u2013 POP\/ROCK<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: The Chainsmokers<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-16288 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/70.32.16.123\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/giphy-6.gif\" alt=\"giphy\" width=\"410\" height=\"226\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Coldplay has been a routine winner at various music awards for over a decade, and there&#8217;s little reason for them to be denied the Favorite Duo\/Group category. However, their experience could be matched by the explosive sound of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/the-chainsmokers-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Chainsmokers<\/a>, who&#8217;ve taken EDM and transformed it into a mainstream chart-topping genre. It&#8217;s a close one to call, but we&#8217;re going with the DJ duo on this one. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/imagine-dragons-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Imagine Dragons<\/a> is also nominated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE SONG \u2013 POP\/ROCK<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner:\u00a0\u201cShape of You\u201d &#8211; Ed Sheeran <em>OR<\/em> &#8220;Despacito&#8221; &#8211; Luis Fonsi &amp; Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber<\/p>\n<p>The race between &#8220;Shape of You&#8221; and &#8220;Despacito&#8221; is simply too close to call. The former set records as the most streamed song on Spotify and with the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The latter tied a record for longest reign at the top of the Hot 100 and its music video scored over 4 billion views on Youtube, making it the site&#8217;s most viewed (and liked) video. Either song should expect to win, whereas The Chainsmokers&#8217; &#8220;Closer&#8221; is a dark horse nominee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE MALE ARTIST \u2013 COUNTRY<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Sam Hunt<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8363 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ticketclub.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/sam-hunt-performance-cma-2015-billboard-1548.jpg\" alt=\"sam-hunt-performance-CMA-2015-billboard-1548\" width=\"328\" height=\"217\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/thomas-rhett-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomas Rhett<\/a> became the first country artist to top the Billboard Hot 200 chart this year with his third album <em>Life Changes<\/em>, bolstered by upbeat singles &#8220;Craving You&#8221; and &#8220;Unforgettable.&#8221; However, Sam Hunt ruled radio with his cheeky crossover hit &#8220;Body Like a Back Road,&#8221; increasing his already-devout fan base and made him a major force to be reckoned with in country music. He&#8217;s our bet for the AMA over Rhett and Keith Urban.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE FEMALE ARTIST \u2013 COUNTRY<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Carrie Underwood<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13005 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ticketclub.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/giphy10.gif\" alt=\"giphy\" width=\"385\" height=\"211\" \/><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/maren-morris-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maren Morris<\/a> had a whirlwind introductory year into country music, earning herself a Grammy Award and acclaimed collaborations with Thomas Rhett (&#8220;Craving You&#8221;) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/vince-gill-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vince Gill<\/a> (&#8220;Dear Hate&#8221;). She has the potential to become a top country female vocalist, but Carrie Underwood has earned this AMA the past three years straight, with a massive fan base to vote her through to a fourth consecutive win. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/miranda-lambert-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Miranda Lambert<\/a> is also nominated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE SONG \u2013 COUNTRY<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: \u201cBody Like a Back Road\u201d &#8211; Sam Hunt<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sam Hunt - Body Like A Back Road (Official Audio)\" width=\"685\" height=\"385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Mdh2p03cRfw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As previously mentioned, Sam Hunt&#8217;s &#8220;Body Like a Back Road&#8221; ruled both country and pop radio charts this summer. It is the clear winner of this category, which also recognizes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/jon-pardi-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jon Pardi&#8217;s<\/a> &#8220;Dirt on My Boots&#8221; and Keith Urban&#8217;s &#8220;Blue Ain&#8217;t Your Color&#8221; as nominees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE ARTIST \u2013 RAP\/HIP-HOP<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Drake<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4884 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ticketclub.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/giphy7.gif\" alt=\"giphy\" width=\"383\" height=\"215\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another tight race, the Rap\/Hip-Hop artist category pits <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/concerts\/migos-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Migos<\/a> against heavyweights Drake and Kendrick Lamar. We&#8217;re giving Drake the edge here but Lamar would be anything but a dark horse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE SONG \u2013 RAP\/HIP-HOP<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: &#8220;I&#8217;m the One&#8221; &#8211; DJ Khaled\u00a0feat.\u00a0Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper &amp; Lil Wayne<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"DJ Khaled - I&#039;m The One ft. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne\" width=\"685\" height=\"385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/weeI1G46q0o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Given the sheer star power in &#8220;I&#8217;m the One&#8221; combined with its chart performance and &#8220;Song of the Summer&#8221; recognition, it seems like the anthem to beat. However, Kendrick Lamar gained plenty of praise for his nominated hit &#8220;Humble.,&#8221; as did the Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane collaboration &#8220;Black Beatles.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE MALE ARTIST \u2013 SOUL\/R&amp;B<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Bruno Mars<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7598 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ticketclub.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/giphy10.gif\" alt=\"giphy\" width=\"372\" height=\"209\" \/><br \/>\nMars is the most nominated artist of the night, and it comes as no surprise that he&#8217;s the favorite in this category, as he made honed in on his musical style on latest album 24k Magic, which featured rich, soulful tracks blended with inspiration from 90s R&amp;B. Childish Gambino and The Weeknd are hoping to stop him, but it&#8217;s safe to say this award belongs to Mars.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE FEMALE ARTIST \u2013 SOUL\/R&amp;B<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Beyonc\u00e9<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5154 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ticketclub.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/giphy4.gif\" alt=\"giphy\" width=\"422\" height=\"156\" \/><br \/>\nYear after year this category seems to be a toss up between Beyonc\u00e9 and Rihanna, both of whom are nominated once again alongside Kehlani. RiRi has history on her side, winning this award three out of the last four years. However, Bey could take the crown this year after her fans watched her miss out on several major Grammy wins in February.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE SONG \u2013 SOUL\/R&amp;B<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: \u201cThat\u2019s What I Like\u201d &#8211; Bruno Mars<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bruno Mars - That\u2019s What I Like [Official Music Video]\" width=\"685\" height=\"385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PMivT7MJ41M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s What I Like&#8221; has been a constant fixture among the top of music charts for months now, and remains one of those songs you just have to sing along to when it comes on. Other nominated songs are The Weeknd&#8217;s &#8220;Starboy&#8221; and Khalid&#8217;s &#8220;Location.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAVORITE ARTIST \u2013 ALTERNATIVE ROCK<\/strong><br \/>\nPredicted winner: Too close to call<\/p>\n<p>This category is one of the toughest to call, as Twenty One Pilots took this home last year, Imagine Dragons had a radio resurgence with their latest album <em>Evolve<\/em>, and Linkin Park could win as a way of honoring late frontman Chester Bennington.<\/p>\n<p>The 2017 American Music Awards air tonight at 8 p.m. EST on ABC, and feature performances by Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Shawn Mendes, Lady Gaga and many more.
