Six years after what was thought to be their final performance, LCD Soundsystem has returned to the music world. The dance-punk band have gifted fans with their fourth album,\u00a0American Dream, <\/em>and are hitting the road through the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Following the announcement of an LCD reunion in 2016, the band got back to performing and made the rounds of major festivals last year, including appearances at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits<\/a> and Panorama Music Festival.<\/p>\n

Founder and frontman James Murphy returns with an eclectic collection, bolstered by the opening track “Oh Baby,” dreamy, mid-tempo tune that is actually quite deceptive in it’s lyrical depiction of a breakup as a nightmare.<\/p>\n

American Dream<\/em>\u00a0is a well thought-out LP, as it should be considering the seven-year gap between it and the group’s third album, This Is Happening<\/em>. The ten-track set clocks in at over an hour, with no single song shy of a five minute playing time, which let’s LCD focus on building up sounds for a climactic finish. “How Do You Sleep?” “Black Screen,” “Change Your Mind” and the title track are the album’s slowest, but most pensive cuts that longtime fans will appreciate. Melodic riffs meet Murphy’s distinct voice in the dance-worthy “Emotional Haircut,” “Tonite,” “I Used To,” and “Other Voices.” Lead single “Call the Police” remains a standout though it feels oddly reminiscent of The Killers<\/a>‘ “All These Things That I’ve Done.”<\/p>\n
