Queen Musical “We Will Rock You” To Tour North America

Get ready to rock out with more Queen. Following the success of box office smash Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen’s jukebox musical We Will Rock You is set for a return to North American theaters. The musical will invade 43 cities this fall in a revived production by Canadian theater company Annerin Theatricals.

The tour will kick off September 3 at Centennial Concert Hall in Winnipeg for a six-night stint and stretch into next year with its closing night set for February 7 in Toronto. Shows are planned in San Jose, New Orleans, Cincinnati, Denver, Milwaukee, and New York, among other markets.

Unlike most musicals, We Will Rock You is taking a different approach to touring. The production will perform in both arena and traditional theater settings – a longtime creative vision of Annerin Theatricals President Jeff Parry.

“This is a show I have wanted to produce since I first saw it in London,” Parry said in a statement. “I thought that Queen’s musical was for everyone and not just the typical Broadway crowd, therefore we’re producing it in a way that can accommodate most buildings and audiences that want to experience the music of Queen in a uniquely theatrical manner.”

We Will Rock You tells the story of a group of bohemian youth living a futuristic society without rock music or free expression. It features over 20 of Queen’s greatest hits, including “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Are the Champions,” “Under Pressure,” “Another One Bites The Dust,” “Radio Ga Ga” and of course, the title banger. The original West End production ran for 12 years, making it one of the longest-running musicals in London.

Queen has seen a renewed surge in popularity since biopic Bohemian Rhapsody was released in November 2018. Not only did the film become the highest-grossing musical biopic in history, but it took home four Oscars earlier this year, including Best Actor for Rami Malek’s portrayal of famed frontman Freddie Mercury. Queen music sales spiked following the release and prompted the band to launch a nationwide tour, set to begin this summer.
