The Who Announce Moving On! Tour, New Album

The Who certainly have a big year ahead. The legendary rock band will headline their North American Moving On! Tour and release a new album, they announced today.

The Moving On! Tour will launch May 7 in Grand Rapids and extend through June 1 before the band takes a brief hiatus. They’ll resume the outing September 6 in St. Paul and remain on the road for six weeks before wrapping the trek October 23. A total of 29 shows comprise both the summer and fall legs, including stops in Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Houston and Detroit. The rockers will play a mix of arenas, amphitheaters, and even a handful of MLB ballparks.

Bolstered by frontman Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend, The Who will also be backed by local orchestras during each show. Despite this unconventional tactic, Daltrey insists fans won’t be disappointed.

“Be aware Who fans! Just because it’s The Who with an orchestra, in no way will it comprise the way Pete and I deliver our music. This will be full throttle Who with horns and bells on,” he said in a statement. Concert-goers can expect to hear a wide-ranging mix of songs from the English rockers’ catalog. In particular, selections from their multi-Platinum record Tommy are a surefire bet to commemorate the album’s 50th anniversary.

Accompanying the tour will be the band’s twelfth album, though its official title and release date remain unknown. The LP will be the band’s first in 13 years, serving as a much-anticipated follow-up to 2006’s Endless Wire
