2019 marks two major career milestones for Carlos Santana, and to celebrate, he will return to the road this summer on the Supernatural Now Tour, promoter Live Nation announced today.
Santana’s Supernatural Now Tour commemorates the 20th anniversary of the guitarist’s Grammy-winning album Supernatural, but also coincides with the 50th anniversary of his memorable Woodstock performance. The outing will begin June 22 in Phoenix and stretch three months before wrapping in Wantagh, New York on August 25. A total of 29 cities make up the itinerary, including Chicago, Portland, Cleveland, Dallas, St. Louis, Detroit, and Los Angeles. The Doobie Brothers will join the road in support.
Hitting the road in 2019 seemed like a no-brainer for Santana given the momentous anniversaries of Woodstock and Supernatural. He exploded onto the music scene in 1969 with a showstopping performance at Woodstock that was equal parts energetic and hypnotic. “I’ll never forget the way the music sounded, bouncing up against a field of bodies,” the musician reflected. 30 years after taking over Woodstock, Santana continued to dominate the music world with the groundbreaking release of Supernatural. The wildly successful record became one of the best-selling albums of all time and won nine Grammys. In addition, Supernatural gave Santana No. 1 smash singles “Smooth” and “Maria, Maria.” The former won a Grammy for Record of the Year, making Carlos Santana the first Hispanic artist to achieve such a feat.
While the Supernatural Now Tour will pay homage to Santana’s significant career milestones, fans can also expect to hear new material. In particular, Santana’s forthcoming EP In Search of Mona Lisa is expected to be featured in future performances. The EP is due out January 25.
“We’re always moving forward, and we have incredible new songs and melodies that will inspire you,” the singer said in a statement. “I feel like a 20-year-old on stage playing with this band, and they deliver on every song. The shows will be well balanced between the hits of yesterday, today and tomorrow.”
Prior to launching the Supernatural Now Tour, Santana will also embark on the brief Global Conciousness Tour. Fans can also catch Carlos Santana in Las Vegas as his House of Blues residency continues and at gatherings like the Houston Rodeo and New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
