Pharrell to Launch Hometown Music Festival This Spring

Pharrell Williams has announced plans to curate his own music festival, dubbed Something In The Water. The project will take place April 26-28 in his hometown of Virginia Beach and feature performances by Migos, Travis Scott, Janelle Monae, J Balvin and more.

Something In The Water will serve as a testament to Pharrell’s home state of Virginia and his fellow musical talents that also hail from there. Virginia natives Missy Elliott and Dave Matthews Band are among the star-studded lineup, along with Lil Uzi Vert, SZA, Diplo, Pusha T, Anderson .Paak, Maggie Rogers, Jhene Aiko and Jaden Smith.

“The people of Virginia are one-of-a-kind, uniquely gritty, bold and brilliant,” Pharrell said in a statement. “For the first time, we are harnessing that energy, bringing the great minds of our time and the biggest brands in the world to this great place, and letting the inspiration flow and well deserved opportunities unfold.”

In addition to a stacked musical lineup, the Something In The Water Festival promises an emphasis on art and culture, education, wellness and more. The weekend will feature a film screening of The Burial of Kojo, presented by filmmaker Ava Duvernay’s indie film distribution collaborative Array. The film, which premieres on Netflix later this month, will be followed by a conversation with fans.

Following the inaugural Something In The Water Festival, Pharrell will also perform at California’s BottleRock Festival in May, though he currently has no other confirmed appearances on the 2019 festival circuit.

Pharrell is now the latest musical giant to curate a hometown music festival. Other hip-hop moguls like Drake and J. Cole have launched their own gatherings: the successful OVO Fest for the former and Dreamville Festival for the latter.
