The 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend is sure to deliver big basketball thrills, but the entertainment doesn’t stop there. Chance The Rapper, Common and Taylor Bennett are all slated to perform for their hometown crowd when the annual event invades Chicago’s United Center February 14-16.
Chance The Rapper will headline a halftime performance at the anticipated All-Star Game on Sunday, February 16. Common joins him in the festivities by leading player introductions as the game’s emcee. Rising rapper (and Chance’s younger brother) Taylor Bennett will kick off the jam-packed weekend with a performance at the NBA Rising Stars Game on Friday, February 14.
News of the All-Star lineup comes just days after Chance The Rapper cancelled his Big Day Tour. Originally set for the fall, the tour was postponed to early 2020 following the birth of the Grammy-winner’s daughter. In a social media post, he said his decision to axe the tour entirely was “for the best” as he continues to focus on family.
In addition to performing throughout NBA All-Star Weekend, Chance and Bennett are also taking on the roles of “NBA All-Star Ambassadors,” according to an official release. They will work alongside the league, as well as the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Sports Commission to “develop community and fan-driven programs.”
Chance The Rapper has already proved his philanthropy throughout the Windy City. His non-profit organization SocialWorks is devoted to empowering the community. It specifically focuses on improving education, promoting the arts, mental health and combating homelessness.
Fans attending the All-Star Game can expect a few special guests to join the halftime performance. 2020 marks the third time Chicago will host the jam-packed weekend, previously doing so in 1973 and 1988.
