Former First Lady Michelle Obama will be joined by a number of all-star guests on her upcoming book tour. Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Tracee Ellis Ross and more are set to appear as moderators on select dates of the cross-country tour, Live Nation and Crown Publishing announced today.
The tour, dubbed Becoming: An Intimate Conversation with Michelle Obama, will launch November 13 at Chicago’s United Center. Fellow Chicago native Oprah Winfrey will sit down with the former First Lady and her hometown crowd that evening, with a variety of other women in politics, education, media and entertainment poised to moderate the remainder of the tour dates.
Actresses Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Jessica Parker and Tracee Ellis Ross will accompany Mrs. Obama on a trio of dates. Comedian Phoebe Robinson, poet/scholar Elizabeth Alexander, journalist Michele Norris and political adviser Valerie Jarrett will each appear on two occasions with Mrs. Obama. The tour will include stops in Denver, Boston, Dallas and Los Angeles among other cities. Multiple dates are scheduled in Washington, DC and Brooklyn.
Ten percent of the tour’s proceeds from each city will be donated to local charities, schools and organizations, with a number of citizens representing each community group being granted free admission into the evening.
The tour comes in support of Michelle Obama’s forthcoming memoir Becoming, due out November 13. The work explores her childhood, family life, and role as an advocate both as First Lady and after leaving the White House.
