Lollapalooza’s 2018 music festival lineup was announced this afternoon, confirming that Arctic Monkeys, Bruno Mars, Jack White, The National, Odesza, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, and Vampire Weekend will headline this year’s show.
Since its debut in 1991, the festival has included artists from various genres, offering inclusion for all types of listeners in the crowd. Each headliner, with the exception of Mars, has played the festival in the past. The Grammy-winning superstar is a great addition to Lolla, with his funky, soulful music. Mars will take a break from his 24K Magic World Tour for the festival, ending his European leg of the tour mid-July and picking it back up again in the States this October.
This year’s lineup features a handful of indie artists like Walk The Moon, Chvrches, and St. Vincent, as well as rock groups All Time Low, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and The Vaccines. The Neighborhood, Franz Ferdinand, and Walk the Moon are also pleasantly surprising additions to the festival.
Rappers Lil Pump and Post Malone will make their first appearance, alongside Lolla veteran Lil Uzi Vert. Rising stars like Camila Cabello, Bebe Rexha, Dua Lipa, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise also made the cut.
Like any music festival, Lollapalooza includes top-notch, popular artists to perform alongside fresh, new musical groups. Although most music-goers attend festivals to see their favorite bands, there are always up-and-coming musicians, ready to steal hearts. The Wrecks, an indie-rock band from California, stole a spot on the lineup, and are sure to make some noise. The five-piece band just released their first official EP, Panic Vertigo – a jammable set of tracks to follow up their acclaimed, popular singles. Similarly, the alternative trio Mainland is on the ticket, following a newly released single. With only a few songs under their belts, both bands will gain the exposure they need to get recognized in the music scene.
Electronic music is sure to keep the hype alive throughout the warm, August nights; DJs Zedd and Dillon Francis are joined this year by electro-duo Hippie Sabatoge. The brothers of Hippie Sabotage are set to play many festivals this year, gaining momentum alongside acclaimed DJs. The duo is best known for their remix of Tove Lo’s hit track, “Habits (Stay High),” which gained worldwide attention in 2014. So far in 2018, Hippie Sabotage have released three more singles, following their 2017 record, Drifter.
In addition to the jam-packed lineup, the festival has a few surprises up its sleeve. One of the special performances has been announced – founder Perry Farrell’s project, Kind Heaven, will feature a cast of musicians that will premiere music from his upcoming solo album. Other special guests are yet to be announced.
Lollapalooza, which originally debuted in 1991, has recently gone global, however, its mainstay is in Chicago, held at Grant Park. The festival will run from Thursday, August 2 through Sunday, August 5. Over 170 artists will perform throughout the four days, along with shows from dance and comedy acts and offerings from craft booths.
