Two of country music’s top acts are joining forces this summer. Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker are hitting the road later this year on their joint Summer Plays On tour, it was announced today.
The massive trek kicks off in mid-July and extends through early October, bringing the co-headliners to major outdoor venues in 30 cities along the way. Markets on the itinerary include Chicago, Seattle, Cleveland, Phoenix, and Tampa. The tour’s opening gig in Toronto is the lone Canadian concert. Special guest Russell Dickerson is joining the tour in support.
Rucker and Lady A are no strangers to working with each other. The former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman opened for the Lady Antebellum on their 2011 Own the Night tour. Two years later, the Grammy-winning trio provided backing vocals on Rucker’s chart-topping cover of Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel.”
Prior to the Summer Plays On Tour, Rucker will head to Kissimmee, Florida as a headliner for the three-day Runaway Country Music Festival, joining Brantley Gilbert, Florida Georgia Line and Kane Brown. Lady Antebellum are not pegged for any festival appearances this spring due to Hillary Scott expecting twins in February. However, they are slated to participate in Oregon’s Willamette Country Music Festival in August on one of their rare off-days from the upcoming tour.
