Nearly 50 years after their formation, Jeff Lynne’s ELO are still taking the world by storm. The pioneering rock band are set to embark on a new North American tour next summer, Live Nation announced today.
The tour will get underway June 20 in Anaheim and extend through July before concluding in Pittsburgh on August 1. Lynne & co. will invade arenas in major markets across the country, including Portland, Nashville, Tampa, Detroit and Philadelphia. Stops in Vancouver and Toronto mark the lone Canadian gigs on the trek. A total of 20 cities make up the six-week itinerary.
Their new stretch of tour dates follows up the group’s brief, yet highly successful North American tour earlier this summer. While they performed in their native U.K., before this year, the band had not endured a proper North American tour since 1981. The jaunt was met with overwhelming acclaim and sold-out shows.
Jeff Lynne’s ELO – currently comprised of mastermind Lynne and Richard Tandy – dropped their 13th album Alone in the Universe in 2015 and in 2017, were immortalized with their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While they’re known for hits like “Mr. Blue Sky” “Don’t Bring Me Down,” they also hold quite an usual record in the music industry for the achieving the most U.S. Top 40 hit singles (20) without ever reaching No. 1.
