Bruce Springsteen Denies 2019 Touring Rumors

After rumors began to swirl that a world tour was in Bruce Springsteen’s future, The Boss has set the record straight, denying the possibility of a new tour in the coming year.

“While we hope to be back with you soon, the E Street Band won’t be touring in 2019,” Springsteen shared on Twitter. “Before I go back to my day job, the year will be consumed with a break after our Broadway run and various recording projects I’ve been working on. We do hope to see you soon, and until then, we have some mighty E Streeters out there regularly performing with their own projects who’d love and deserve your support.”

The musician, who has been at the center of the smash Springsteen on Broadway residency, sent the rumor mill spinning when he confirmed he was working on new music in an interview with The Times and implied a future U.K. tour was in the cards for 2019

Despite a wave of excitement from Springsteen fans immediately following the publication’s release, confusion began to mount when a few members of the iconic E Street Band denied a tour was in the works. Guitarist Nils Lofgren commented on Twitter that “Only the Boss knows.” Bandmate Stevie Van Zandt chimed in too, tweeting “There are no plans for E Street Touring in 2019 right now. Could that change at any moment ? Yes. We will try and get an official statement. Maybe that would help.”

Although a tour may not be in Springsteen’s immediate future, new music certainly is. The Boss shared with The Times that he’s working on “more of a solo record,” and added that “for lack of a better word, it’s a singer-songwriter album.” The project marks Springsteen’s first studio album since 2014’s High Hopes.

For now, The Boss will focus on wrapping up his record-shattering Springsteen on Broadway series, which is slated to fold on December 15 after 236 sold-out performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre. A filmed version of the intimate concert will be available for streaming the following day on Netflix, while an official Springsteen on Broadway album will be released December 14.
