Boston Calling Lineup Led by Foo Fighters, Rage Against the Machine

A trio of rock giants will take over Boston this spring. Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been confirmed as headliners of the 2020 Boston Calling lineup.

This year’s edition of the festival, which takes place May 22-24 at the Harvard Athletic Complex, will also feature performances from Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Run the Jewels, Brittany Howard, Liam Gallagher, The 1975, Banks and dozens more. The Foo Fighters will kick off the festivities with a Friday night set. RATM and Red Hot Chili Peppers will close out the bash with performances on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

The lineup announcement was not terribly surprising for fans. Festival officials previously confirmed the Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers as headliners back in November. Historically, one headlining slot has belonged to a rapper. Since 2017, Eminem, Travis Scott and Chance the Rapper have appeared alongside alt-rock headliners, leading many to speculate the same would happen in 2020.

However, Rage Against the Machine nabbed the final slot as they continue their festival-filled reunion tour. The California-based band will also headline Coachella in April, as well as Delaware’s Firefly Music Festival in June. Their springtime schedule of gigs marks their first live performances since 2011.

RATM’s fellow Boston Calling headliners will also be kept busy with several festival appearances. Dave Grohl and company will were previously announced as Weekend One headliners at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, as well as performers at Pharrell’s Something In the Water Festival. The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be a hot commodity in festivals this May. They are on tap for Alabama’s Hangout Festival, Boston Calling and Napa’s BottleRock Festival – all taking place in the span of one week.
