7 Broadway Shows Leaving June 2024

As the summer months begin, Broadway theaters are gearing up for a series of goodbyes. From musical legends to modern dramas, Ticket Club takes a look at seven Broadway shows you won’t want to miss before they take their final bows.

Ben Platt: Live at the Palace 

Tony, Grammy, and Emmy award-winner Ben Platt’s concert residency at Palace Theater is set to close on Saturday, June 15. Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Arden, the residency coincides with Platt’s recent release of his third album, Honeymind. 

Following the conclusion of his residency, Platt will begin his North American tour, “The Honeymind” set to begin on June 18 in Boston and wrap up on July 27 in Seattle. 

Uncle Vanya 

“Uncle Vanya” by Anton Chekhov, adapted by Heidi Schreck and directed by Lila Neugebauer, is set to close at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre on June 16. 

Notably, the cast includes Steve Carell, who made his Broadway debut in the role of Vanya. Other cast members include  Alfred Molina and Anika Noni Rose. The Lincoln Center Theater production takes a new perspective on Chekhov’s exploration of human despair and longing.

An Enemy of the People 

Henrik Ibsen’s “An Enemy of the People,” adapted by Amy Herzog and directed by Sam Gold, is set to say goodbye at the Circle In The Square Theatre on June 23 after an extended run. 

The play stars Jeremy Strong, Victoria Pedretti, Max Roll, Thomas Jay Ryan, Alan Trong, and Michael Imperioli in a tale of a small-town doctor who faces societal and political backlash after uncovering a life-threatening environmental catastrophe. 

The creative team includes lighting design by Isabella Byrd, sound design by Mikaal Sulaiman, costume design by David Zinn. 

Patriots 

“Patriots,” a political drama written by Peter Morgan and directed by Rupert Goold, is scheduled to close at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on June 30. The play delves into the post-Soviet power struggle between billionaire Boris Berezovsky and the rising Vladimir Putin. 

“Patriots’ cast is led by by Michael Stuhlbarg alongside Will Keen, Luke Thallon, Stella Baker, Ronald Guttman, Alex Hurt, Rosie Benton, Jeff Biehl, Peter Bradbury, Camila Canó-Flaviá, Joe Forbrich, Marianna Gailus, Paul Kynman, Adam Poss, Nick Rehberger, and Tony Ward. 

The creative team includes set designer Miriam Buether, co-costume designers Deborah Andrews and Miriam Buether, lighting designer Jack Knowles, and sound designer and composer Adam Cork.

Appropriate 

“Appropriate” is scheduled to close at the Belasco Theatre on June 30 after it received its third extension. Originally slated to close on June 23, the play was extended again due to critical acclaim, including eight Tony Award nominations. 

“Appropriate,” written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and directed by Lila Neugebauer, portrays the Lafayette family’s tumultuous reunion at their late patriarch’s Arkansas home, where they confront long-buried secrets and resentments. 

The cast includes Sarah Paulson and Corey Stoll, Ella Beatty, Graham Campbell, Lincoln Cohen, Michael Esper, Natalie Gold, Alyssa Emily Marvin, and Everett Sobers. 

A Beautiful Noise 

Fans of legendary musician Neil Diamond will not want to miss “A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical” at the Broadhurst Theatre, closing on June 30. Directed by Michael Mayer and featuring a book by Anthony McCarten, this musical brings Diamond’s life and hits to the stage. 

The show captures Diamond’s storied career, celebrating his legacy while performing the singer’s hits such as “Sweet Caroline” and “America.” The current cast features Mark Jacoby as Neil Diamond, Amber Ardolino as Marcia Murphey, Shirine Babb as Doctor, Becky Gulsvig as Jaye Posner, and Ellie Greenwich as Rose Diamond.

Mary Jane 

“Mary Jane,” written by Amy Herzog and directed by Anne Kauffman, is scheduled for its final performance at Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on June 30. 

The play stars Rachel McAdams as a single mother navigating an impossible family situation with resilience and hope. Supported by a strong ensemble cast, including April Matthis and Susan Pourfar, “Mary Jane” is a heartfelt exploration of the strength and support found in community and friendship.
