Aussie pop rockers 5 Seconds of Summer have plotted their return to music. They delighted fans Monday by confirming a June 22 release date for third album Youngblood and announced tour dates to follow.
Their Meet You There Tour is set to kick off with a 23-date North American leg beginning August 27 in Toronto. It will stretch into October, hitting cities like Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Denver, San Diego and Nashville along the way. While no other tour legs have been announced yet, millions of 5 Seconds of Summer fans around the globe are waiting with bated breath for more dates to be unveiled. And luck appears to be on their side; 5SOS performed over 100 shows on their 2016 Sounds Live Feels Live tour in four continents including their native Australia.
Prior to the tour’s launch, 5 Seconds of Summer will perform a number of festival gigs this summer. These include the New York’s WBLI Summer Jam and the Kiss Concert in Boston, which also feature names like Shawn Mendes, Meghan Trainor, Bebe Rexha, Alessia Cara, Backstreet Boys and Dua Lipa.
5SOS is currently headlining intimate venues across the U.S. through the end of this month, before they upgrade to arenas and amphitheaters come August.
Their latest venture proves that 5 Seconds of Summer can only build on the massive success they’ve achieved in only a few years time. After what began as them posting videos of song covers to YouTube in 2011, the band was quickly given a publishing deal in Australia, where they achieved moderate success. They shot to super-stardom shortly after when various members of One Direction recommended the band to their millions of fans on social media, which eventually led to 1D inviting them to serve as an opener on not one but two world tours. Since then, they’ve rode the success of a No. 1 album (2015’s Sounds Good Feels Good) and multi-platinum singles like “She Looks So Perfect” and “Amnesia.”
Their current single “Want You Back” is out now ahead of Youngblood‘s widely anticipated release.
