The 2017 Tony Awards will celebrate the brightest stars and most buzz-worthy new shows to grace New York City stages while shaping the popularity of productions for months to come. Check out our predictions for the winning shows in the musical categories.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Musical<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Show Clips: DEAR EVAN HANSEN starring Ben Platt\" width=\"685\" height=\"385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jEmPrKxN3vk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Of its nine nominations, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/shows\/dear-evan-hansen-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dear Evan Hansen<\/a><\/em> is looking likely to win the biggest category of the night. The story of the titular character (played by Ben Platt) has been widely praised for addressing important the subject matter of social anxiety and suicide while remaining heartwarming in typical coming-of-age fashion. Expect <em>Evan Hansen<\/em>\u00a0to prevail over other nominated shows <em>Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812<\/em>, <em>Come From Away<\/em>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/shows\/anastasia-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anastasia<\/a><\/em> and <em>Groundhog Day<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Revival of a Musical<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With only three revived shows nominated, the one-in-three odds of picking a winner are pretty favorable. However, we&#8217;re 100 percent confident in saying that <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/shows\/hello-dolly-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hello, Dolly!<\/a><\/em> will earn a Tony here. The original 1964 production took home ten Tony&#8217;s and the reinvigorated 2017 version starring Bette Midler as the tour-de-force Dolly has been charming audiences since it premiered at the Shubert Theatre two months ago. The newest revivals of <em>Falsettos<\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/shows\/miss-saigon-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miss Saigon<\/a><\/em> are hard-pressed to beat <em>Hello, Dolly!<\/em> in this category.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Original Score<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although Best Original Score is a tougher category to predict, it&#8217;s likely that either <em>Dear Evan Hansen<\/em> or <em>Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812<\/em> will take the crown. The former features a contemporary pop\/rock score to weave together the complex story of teenager Evan Hansen, whereas the later fuses together traditional Russian folk and modern electropop. Scores for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/shows\/groundhog-day-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Groundhog Day<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/shows\/come-from-away-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Come From Away<\/a><\/em> are also nominated. Should Platt get snubbed, Karl would be a worthy choice for his portrayal of Phil Connors in the stage adaptation of the beloved 1993 comedy. Karl received wide praise for continuing to perform despite injuring his ACL during preview shows, making a potential Tony win well deserved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Actress in a Leading Role<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8954\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8954\" style=\"width: 489px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8954 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ticketclubsite.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/06\/maxresdefault.jpg\" alt=\"maxresdefault\" width=\"489\" height=\"275\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8954\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bette Midler in <em>Hello, Dolly!<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Patti Lupone (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/shows\/war-paint-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">War Paint<\/a><\/em>), Christine Ebersole (<em>War Paint<\/em>), Denee Benton (<em>Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812<\/em>), Eva Noblezada (<em>Miss Saigon<\/em>) and Bette Midler (<em>Hello, Dolly!<\/em>) make up the distinguished group of women nominated for the Tony of Broadway&#8217;s best leading lady. All are worthy, but Midler stands above the rest for her sheer star power and likability brought to an already-iconic role. Expect to see her take this one home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Choreography<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uVZnU2Kp_dk<\/p>\n<p>Though only nominated in two categories, <em>Bandstand<\/em> may pick up a win for Best Choreography, which would make Andy Blankenbuehler a repeat winner after earning this Tony last year for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketclub.com\/shows\/hamilton-tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamilton<\/a><\/em>. Sam Pinkleton is hoping to notch a win for the night&#8217;s most nominated musical <em>Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812<\/em>, though <em>Come From Away, Holiday Inn<\/em>, and <em>Groundhog Day<\/em> are also contenders.<\/p>\n<p>The 2017 Tony Awards will feature appearances by Orlando Bloom, Anna Kendrick, Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey, and Josh Gad, and will honor James Earl Jones with the Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.
