Ticket Club<\/a> takes a closer look at seven Broadway musicals to check out this summer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1. Merrily We Roll Along\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n

The revival of “Merrily We Roll Along” extended its Broadway run at Hudson Theatre, giving theatergoers one more opportunity to catch the production. Originally set to conclude on January 21, and later extended to March 24, has now secured a closing date on July 7.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Merrily We Roll Along” explores lifelong friendship, success, and the passage of time with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by George Furth. The cast includes Jonathan Groff as Franklin Shepard, Daniel Radcliffe as Charley Kringas, and Lindsay Mendez as Mary Flynn.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Back to the Future: The Musical\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n

Multi-award winning “Back to the Future: The Musical” stars Roger Bart as Doc Brown and Casey Likes as Marty McFly \u2013 alongside Hugh Coles, Liana Hunt and Jelani Remy at Winter Garden Theatre.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Directed by John Rando, audiences will have the chance to join Marty McFly and Doc Brown’s journey through the past, present, and future as they race against time to set things right. “Back to the Future: The Musical” includes music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri, Glen Ballard, and Co-Creator\/Producers Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. The Outsiders\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n

Based on S.E. Hinton’s classic novel, “The Outsiders” transports audiences to 1960’s Tulsa, Oklahoma, where a group of young outsiders fights for survival and belonging.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Performances for the show are held at Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre with the cast led by Brody Grant as Ponyboy, Brent Comer as Dallas Winston, Emma Pittman as Cherry Valance, Daryl Tofa as Two-Bit Mathews, and Kevin William Paul as Bob Sheldon.<\/span><\/p>\n

The show is produced by the Araca Group, American Zoetrope, Olympus Theatricals, Sue Gilad & Larry Rogowsky and Angelina Jolie.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. & Juliet\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n

Directed by Luke Sheppard and featuring a soundtrack of pop hits by Max Martin, “& Juliet” reimagines Shakespeare’s <\/span>Romeo and Juliet <\/span><\/i>by asking, “What if Juliet survived and carved her own destiny?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Broadway production debuted on November 17, 2022, and has garnered nine Tony Award nominations in 2023. Behind the scenes, the production is helmed by Max Martin, Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, Jenny Petersson, Martin Dodd, and Eva Price.<\/span><\/p>\n

“& Juliet” has recently welcomed a new leading actress, Maya Boyd, taking on the role of Juliet. This announcement comes as a transition from Lorna Courtney, who earned a Tony Award nomination in 2023 for originating the role.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. The Notebook\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n

Dive into a whirlwind romance with “The Notebook,” based on Nicholas Sparks’ novel at Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Debuting on February 6, 2024, “The Notebook” joined the “1 Million Club” during its first week of showings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson and direction by Michael Greif, this musical brings to life the love story of Noah and Allie with help from directors Michael Greif and Schele Williams. The cast features Jordan Tyson, John Cardoza, Joy Woods, Ryan Vasquez, Maryann Plunkett, and Dorian Harewood with music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

6. The Great Gatsby\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n

Experience the glitz and glamour of the Roaring Twenties with “The Great Gatsby,” a musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel at Broadway Theatre.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Directed by Marc Bruni, the production currently stars Jeremy Jordan as Jay Gatsby and Eva Noblezada as Daisy Buchanan. The Great Gatsby features a score by Jason Howland, lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and a book by Kait Kerrigan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

7. Water for Elephants<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n

Experience the circus with “Water for Elephants,” a musical based on Sara Gruen’s best-selling novel. Directed by Jessica Stone and featuring a score by PigPen Theatre Co., this production follows the journey of a young veterinary student who discovers love and adventure.<\/span><\/p>\n

Playing at the Imperial Theatre, “Water for Elephants” stars Grant Gustin, Isabelle McCalla, Gregg Edelman, Paul Alexander Nolan, Stan Brown, Joe De Paul, and Sara Gettelfinger.<\/span><\/p>\n
