{"id":21514,"date":"2024-05-10T12:52:59","date_gmt":"2024-05-10T16:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"\/blog\/?p=21514"},"modified":"2024-05-10T12:52:59","modified_gmt":"2024-05-10T16:52:59","slug":"lin-manuel-freestyle-love-supreme-broadway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/blog\/lin-manuel-freestyle-love-supreme-broadway\/","title":{"rendered":"Lin-Manuel Miranda&#8217;s Freestyle Love Supreme Headed to Broadway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Hamilton<\/em> creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is bringing his improvisational group Freestyle Love Supreme to Broadway this fall in a new stage show. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The group, which the Tony Award winner co-founded in 2004, puts on performances centered around both improv troupe comedy and freestyle rap. They will take over New York&#8217;s Booth Theater beginning September 13 for a 16-week run.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Before <em>Hamilton<\/em>, before <em>In the Heights<\/em>, my first time performing in New York was with a freestyle hip-hop group called Freestyle Love Supreme,&#8221; the actor told Jimmy Fallon in an appearance on <em>The Tonight Show <\/em>earlier this week. The exciting announcement came moments after the two showed off their freestyle skills in a Wheel of Freestyle segment. The exact performers in any given show will be unknown to audiences until the curtain rises.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Part of what makes <em>Freestyle Love Supreme<\/em> so unique is its unpredictability. Every show is different in material &#8211; and who appears on stage,&#8221; according to the show&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/freestylelovesupreme.com\/faq\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Core members who will largely appear in the upcoming run are Chris Sullivan, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Andrew Bancroft, Arthur Lewis, and Anthony Veneziale, who co-founded the group with Miranda and <em>Hamilton<\/em> director Thomas Kail. Special guests touted to make spontaneous appearances include Wayne Brady, Christopher Jackson, Daveed Diggs, James Monroe Iglehart, Bill Sherman, and Lin-Manuel Miranda himself.<\/p>\n<p>The Tony winner&#8217;s anticipated return to the stage comes three years after leaving the cast of his Broadway smash. In January, Miranda <a href=\"\/blog\/lin-manuel-miranda-promises-return-to-hamilton\/\">reprised his role<\/a> as the titular Founding Father when <em>Hamilton<\/em>&#8216;s touring production traveled to his native Puerto Rico, but has been absent from the theater circuit since. Instead, the 39-year-old composer has turned his attention to film acting, most recently starring in <em>Mary Poppins Returns<\/em>, for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <em>Freestyle Love Supreme<\/em> has been bouncing around U.S. theaters before finally landing a spot on the Great White Way.
