After 50 years on the stage, Elton John announced his retirement from touring, but not before going out in style. The British composer unveiled plans for a massive final trek, the 300-date Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n

John, now 70, made the announcement in an emotional press conference Wednesday in which he detailed out plans for his next chapter. He cited his age and dedication to his family and children as the deciding factors to give up the extensive travel that has been the norm for decades. Though the long stretch of shows will serve as his final tour, John assured fans that they have not yet heard the last of him yet. He remained very much open to creating new music and the even prospect of performing through a residency show.<\/p>\n

He will be kept busy for the next few years. His current Las Vegas residency<\/a>, The Million Dollar Piano<\/em>, is set to close this spring after some 200 performances and seven years. Not long after will he embark on the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, beginning in September. The mammoth trek features dozens of North American dates running from September through March 2019, after which John will presumably perform across other continents. He plotted that the tour will wrap in 2021.<\/p>\n

The legendary singer\/songwriter is set to visit major cities like Boston, Miami, Nashville, Minneapolis, and Portland. Fans in Philadelphia, D.C., Toronto, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas and Los Angeles will all be treated to two-night stints from John.<\/p>\n

Elton John is scheduled to perform at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards, and take the stage again two nights later in a special Grammy tribute concert<\/a>. Artists like Little Big Town<\/a>, Keith Urban<\/a>, Sam Smith<\/a> and more are among the stars who are gathering to honor the singer’s remarkable career in one unforgettable night.<\/p>\n
